How Magnets Heal the Body

Magnets have been used to aid in healing for centuries and modern doctors use them to promote healing when broken bones don’t heal well on their own. How do magnets help? One possibility is through the perineural system.

What is the Perineural System?

The perineural system is the system of connective tissue that surrounds  each nerve fiber and runs throughout the body wherever there are nerves. Scientists have found that this connective tissue carries a current of its own, separate from the signals passing through the nerves that it surrounds. They call this current a “current of injury” because it is generated at the site of the injury and continues until the wound is healed. It tells the body where the injury is and how bad it is so that the body can send the proper response to deal with the problem.

How Do Magnets Help?

The perineural system carries a semiconductor current, like the current that flows through the computer you’re reading this on, and is sensitive to magnetic fields. When an injury is slow to heal, the problem could be that the connective tissue is not able to generate and maintain the “current of injury”. There could also be a block in the system so that the signal doesn’t reach everywhere that it needs to go, similar to the energetic blocks that an acupuncturist might treat.

By applying a magnet or magnetic field to an injury, the magnetic field might stimulate or strengthen the perineural system to kick-start the healing process. I believe this is what happens when a doctor applies a pulsed electromagnetic field device to a broken bone. In our house, we use small magnets to aid in healing the small cuts and bruises that our kids may get while playing.

I believe there are many ways in which magnets help to stimulate and balance the body. Kick-starting the healing process by stimulating the perineural system is one way in which magnetic fields help the body to heal.

Disclaimers and Disclosures

I am a massage therapist and use magnets with my clients and my family. I also sell magnets through my network marketing business. I am not a doctor and do not diagnose conditions or prescribe magnets for any particular condition.  The science that I mention in this article comes from James L. Oschman’s book Energy Medicine: The Scientific Basis.

I hope you found this information interesting and helpful. If you have used magnets for healing then please share your story in a comment. I would also appreciate it if you would share this post with your followers on the social networks.

They work. You dont even have to belive it. I do heavy squats in the gym and injured my knee. I used a magnetic knee brace over 6 weeks I was back.

I have used magnets over the years,,for many things actually,,I usually use a monopole flat magnet,,that has south on one side of it and north on the other”same” side of it. I sometimes get them from old hard drives. But Im sure any stronge magnet will do. I find they help ease pain, for example chest pain,,be it from smoking,,coughing or whatever. I sometimes even wear them on my wrist in a wrist band made from a sock even,,yeah I know the poor mans wrist band. Point is they seem to work wonders,,not immediately of course but over a period of like 12 to 24 hours there is improvement. I also have used them on my back before on damaged disk. Aging sucks to be sure,,lots of strange weird aches and pains come and go. But like I said I think magnets do help. Of course a goody powder works wonders quicker for stopping pain,,but not sure that helps with any healing,,where as magnets do seem to help with real healing. Its not a miracle worker,,eventually old aches and pains return,,but after magnetic use for some hours it seems to go away for days even months. Just my two cents on personal experience, I am no doctor here, so go with whaqt works for you,,according to your doctor,,if you trust them, best wishes,,steve

  3. I definitely agree that magnets help heal the body. We have electricity running through our bodies and by having magnets pull that energy in one place can release stress and pain. I never thought about it, but are there magnets in the Power Band?

  4. A very thought-provoking article about the Perineural system. All of us know about the central nervous system in the human body but not many are familiar with the fact that the central nervous system is made up of 2 types of cells, the neurons or the nerve cells and the perineural cells. While the brain initiates a signal in the form of energy pulses in the neural system, in the perineural system it is in the form of slow waves. Repair of injury is mainly taken care of by the perineural cells, more so when magnets in the form of magnetic mattress pads are placed near the point of damage or injury as you rightly mentioned. Thanks for sharing this article – this topic needs to be discussed more as it will bring out many more positive facts about magnetic therapy.

    • Thanks for the comment Yvonne. Yep, the body is truly amazing and I think that science will continue to show that it is even more amazing than we understand it to be now.
