Wellness Takes Time

In both my network marketing and my massage business people think they should get better very quickly, like overnight or with just one session. That just isn’t very likely to happen.

You Didn’t Get This Way Overnight

People have to consider the fact that it took them months if not years to get in the shape they are in. Whether is is overweight, chronic fatigue, allergies, cancer, or whatever the problem is, it took time to get where they are. While miracle cures do happen, it usually takes time to undo it all.

Some people think that surgery is the miracle cure they are looking for, but it isn’t. I’m talking about chronic (long-term) conditions. In critical, life threatening conditions surgery is probably the right thing to do. What people don’t realize is that the recovery time after surgery can be very long and may require the same work that would have reversed the condition and prevented surgery in the first place.

Chronic Problems are Fixed by Changing Your Habits

In a lot of cases, even if a massage or magnet can fix a problem, the problem won’t stay gone. Same thing with surgery. Chronic problems are usually caused by lifestyle, like bad posture or eating habits. For the problem to reverse naturally or stay gone after a “fix” then a lifestyle change will be required. In other words, to fix the problem you have to remove the cause or the problem will likely come back.

I once got into an argument about carpal tunnel syndrome with a lady who claimed to have once been a nurse. She insisted that the condition required surgery, which is just snipping the fascia that forms the “roof” of the carpal tunnel so that the inflamed tendons can have more room and not continue to pinch the nerve. The problem with that solution is that the body is designed to heal. If the inflammation isn’t releaved by the time that the fascia heals then you have carpal tunnel syndrome again ( actually you still have it, you just haven’t been experiencing the symptoms ). To get rid of it permanently then you have to stop doing whatever you are doing that is causing the inflammation.

I hope this has helped you set your expectations properly for fixing whatever condition you want to fix in your life. Write a comment below and tell me about any experiences you have had with this and please share this with your followers on the social networks.

    Hi Wayne!

Your article really makes me think about my own lifesytle choices and if I complain about a problem I have, it could potencially be my fault.

    Thanks for the reality check!

  2. Hi Wayne – this article is full of wisdom. It is refreshing to run into someone who isn’t saying they can fix you with this or that pill. It takes time and commitment to make the lifestyle changes we need to make to get our health on track. I should know since I am still ‘doing time’ trying to undo my years of not getting enough exercise :( Now after 2 babies and let’s just say quite a few years past 30…. it is a challenge for sure! I appreciate your sage advice. Cheers ~Norma
